Local Athlete, 10-year-old Olivia Looney, Sets Sights on Junior Olympics

Norman, Oklahoma — July 8, 2024 — Oklahoma Lightning Track and Field is thrilled to announce that Olivia Looney, a talented 10-year-old athlete, is gearing up for an exciting journey to the USATF and AAU Junior Olympics. These prestigious events will be held at Texas A&M in College Station, Texas, for USATF, and at the University of North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, North Carolina, for AAU.

Olivia has earned “All American” status the last three years, ranking 8th in the Nation in 2023 for AAU, 8th in the nation in 2022 for AAU, and 5th in the nation for USATF in the long jump for her division.  Her best sanctioned jump this year was 14ft 6 inches at the Missouri Valley Association Championships in Kansas City, Missouri at Staley High School.

Looney has emerged as an exceptional athlete in the realm of track and field, achieving remarkable success in the Long Jump event. With an impressive record as a four-time defending Oklahoma State Champion in the Long Jump for USATF and as the defending USATF Regional Champion, Olivia has proven her mettle on multiple occasions. She has also been state champion on the AAU circuit multiple times as well.

Next on Olivia’s agenda is the 2024 USATF Region 9 Championship, scheduled to take place at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas, from July 12th to 14th. As she looks forward to defending her title in the Long Jump event, Olivia also aims to qualify in the 200 and 400 meters, further demonstrating her commitment to excellence across multiple disciplines.  She qualified already in the Region 16 AAU Championships that were on June 19th thru June 22nd in the long jump (placing 2nd) and the 400 meters (placing 5th).

Olivia Looney’s passion for athletics, unwavering dedication, and remarkable achievements at such a young age are an inspiration to her peers and the local community.
