Equipment Testing: Selecting Refurbished Devices

Have you ever considered buying refurbished products but questioned their reliability? In recent years, major companies such as Walmart, Newegg, and Valve have entered the refurbished products market. Walmart’s “Good as New” refurbished program launched in 2022 and since then customers have raised concerns about the quality of the equipment and the testing process. So, the increasing concern is: can you trust refurbished products?

Yes, you can, if you understand the company’s standards, testing process, and e-commerce platform requirements. Refurbished products are items that have been returned to the manufacturer or seller, or repaired by ITAD companies to ensure they function properly. This process also helps to reduce e-waste and preserve landfills.

At CDR Global, we follow a rigorous testing process to ensure the quality of our refurbished products. This is a four-step process that includes:

  1. Registration: Sorting the equipment by category, serializing it by make and model, and assigning a Unique ID (UID) to track it throughout the process.
  2. External components test: Conducting an external component test to ensure the equipment functions correctly, including power functions and checking for any missing components or external damage.
  3. Internal components test: Directing the equipment to its respective department, such as laptops, PCs, or Apple products. CDRGlobal uses software like WipeOS or Phonecheck to verify the functionality of the internal components, including the drive, motherboard, battery, RAM, display, keyboard, and more. Depending on the results, it is determined whether the equipment is sellable or not.
  4. E-commerce or wholesale: If the equipment meets the cutlines and cosmetic grading standards, it is offered through e-commerce platforms like Amazon, eBay, and Walmart. If it doesn’t meet the criteria for e-commerce, it can also be offered to other resellers. CDRGlobal complies with R2V3 requirements to ensure equipment is properly recycled if it doesn’t meet market standards.

The quality of refurbished equipment depends largely on the company’s standards and testing process. It is crucial to research and verify the ITAD (IT Asset Disposition) company you are purchasing from At CDR Global, we believe that refurbishing equipment is a great way to take care of our environment and provide excellent alternatives in the market. If you’re searching for refurbished equipment, trust us to provide quality products that meet your needs.
