Asset Management

Why the need for IT Disposal?
Corporations have made the need for effective, reliable and financially secure disposal services abundantly clear, and Computer Dealers & Recyclers Global, Inc. has structured itself to offer tailor made programs for the most complex requirements.

Computer Dealers & Recyclers Global, Inc. provide an efficient and cost effective way to remove and dispose of all redundant I.T. equipment, with the knowledge that all data and environmental issues meet the strictest environmental legislation. We proactively ensure all ethical and legal obligations are met.

The driving forces:

Desktop Turn Over Rising – The rate of desktop ‘turn over’ is rising. Technology is moving at pace that Corporates’ constantly need to upgrade & refresh to keep in line with present economic demands.

Environmental Pressure – Current & pending legislation dictate strict demands & guidelines for waste management. Over and above the legal restraints on companies, there is increasing pressure from all quarters for companies to act in a more “green” and “Eco-friendly” manner.

Maximize PC Residuals – Long-term storage can prove costly, not only by per Square feet but also in PC value. Re-marketing or Redeployment of old IT can be an effective method of reducing costs.

Data Security – Integrity of sensitive data is fundamental in today’s competitive environment and legislation also dictates that Duty of Care obligations are met. Provisions need to be made for the time and resource consuming function of removing all confidential data.

Positive Marketing – If handled correctly, these issues can be used as positive marketing tools both to the external world of customers and investors and to staff internally. Cost conscious Corporates’ need to understand and prioritize these driving forces to enable them to identify & implement an effective IT Disposal policy.

Disposal Service
The service of IT disposal entails not only the realization of residual value but also relieving the customer of the problem of those items that have no residual value, i.e. scrap. Thus, our clients are never left with surplus items occupying important floor space. Equally important, CDR Global, Inc. will not confine itself to one niche area of IT disposal. Instead, we recycle ALL IT equipment; everything from PC, Laptop/Notebook, Mid-Range and/or Mainframe servers to communication equipment such as phone systems and networking gear.

In broad terms Computer Dealers & Recyclers Global, Inc. can offer 6 processes for surplus product disposal:

Logistics: The movement of the equipment to/from CDR Global, Inc. and its tracking.
Processing: The technical and cosmetic processing of equipment.
Re-Deployment: The collection, processing, refurbishment and re-deployment of equipment to customer sites or end user addresses.
Employee Purchase: Managing the sale of client’s PCs to end-users.
Scrapping & Recycling: The collection of equipment from sites and the disposal of such equipment by Computer Dealers & Recyclers Global, Inc. approved industrial shredder for the recycling of metals and circuit board material.
Re-Marketing: The collection, processing and re-sale of equipment into the general market place through Computer Dealers & Recyclers Global, Inc. outbound sales channels.

Re-marketing
Surplus equipment with a market value at the time of disposal can be sold under a re-marketing agreement. Re-marketing agreements take the form of a charge for processing and then an option of a profit sharing arrangement upon sale of equipment to a third party or a direct purchase model.

Computer Dealers & Recyclers Global, Inc. offers one of the most comprehensive re-marketing services in the industry. The re-marketing process is divided into various areas:

Export Sales
Internet Shops 24 hours 7 days a week
Employee Purchase Scheme On demand
Retail and dealer sales Continuous

Current and Future Legal Framework
The move to stringent environmental legislation will place relatively moderate demands on the producers of non-hazardous waste. The producer must:

Correctly identify and describe the waste.
The waste must be safely contained.
The waste must be transferred to an authorized company.
Records of waste disposal must be kept for two years.
Computer Dealers & Recyclers Global, Inc. takes a proactive approach to environmental issues and implements procedures in our operations in accordance with requirements of Local and State governments

IT equipment is currently not designated as ìspecialî waste and therefore does not require special handling. Certain consumables, toner in particular, however, needs to be separately bagged and labeled.

The WEEE directive (Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment) is widely perceived as the benchmark and the following are highlights of requirements,

Exclusion of incineration for energy recovery as recycling option.
Removal of harmful substances in manufacture.
Targets set for Collection and Re-Use/Recycling (emphasis on re-use).
Producer responsibility for scheme management and achievement of targets.
Possible mandatory take-back schemes.
No charges for private recycling.

As an example IT equipment is currently responsible for some 44% of this waste stream total in Europe and is a key element in the commissions targets for re-use, since many of the other electronic waste products do not lend themselves to re-use.

The above proposals are transforming the redundant IT sector and will have implications for every commercial undertaking. IDC (International Data Corporation) estimate that the IT re-marketing/re-use sector will double over the next four years despite plummeting unit prices.

Data Protection
In addition to environmental and safety issues, companies have duty of care obligations for Data Protection. Companies should ensure that all reasonable steps are taken to secure the data. This applies to all storage media and Hard Disk Drives, Floppy Diskettes a Tape. This is a particular issue with non-working equipment.
